Mamaearth came into the market and took the industry by storm with its aggressive marketing strategies. I tried few products for the review purpose. And phew, I liked most of them. So, I have tried Mamaearth body washes lately, and I am here to share my very honest Mamaearth Body Wash Review.
I have tried 3 variants: Mamaearth Ubtan Body Wash, Mamaearth Honey Malai Body Wash, and Mamaearth Vitamin C Body Wash. (I don’t have the bottle of Ubtan body wash now)
Let’s see all three of them…
Packaging:
Look wise, packaging is average. All three variants come in oval shaped plastic bottle. Closure is press and lock type and is sturdy. The dispensing hole is quite big, so you need to be careful and control the amount while pouring. Ubtan body wash and Honey Malai body wash come in white colored opaque bottle, while Vitamin C body wash comes in transparent bottle; and I don’t understand the reason of this discrimination. Probably the former two contain some light sensitive ingredient. Caps are in different shades of yellow.
Price:
Ubtan: Rs 349 for 300 ml.
Honey Malai: Rs. 349 for 300 ml.
Vitamin C: the bottle I have has MRP Rs. 349 for 300 ml, while at the website, current MRP is Rs. 299 for 300 ml.
The price is quite affordable.

My Views
Just like many other products, these body washes too are marketed by claiming them to be natural. But these have their fair share of chemicals. While it is obvious for any body wash to have these or similar chemicals, the brand should not try to present a fake image of the product. Although, I understand; these marketing gimmicks are needed to survive and stand out in the plethora of the options that we have today in the market.
When I was in USA, my skin became very smooth and soft to touch. When I came back to India, and my skin got back to normal (not so smooth) after a few days, I realized it was due to the body wash that I used there. I didn’t remember the name, so could never get it again. But since then, I really want to have a body wash that would make my skin that soft and smooth. How easy it would be; skin becoming super soft just by washing it, no extra efforts needed.
But I could never find any such body wash here in India, and in Europe too. So whenever I use a new body wash, I hope to find something closer to that body wash.
Is Mamaearth body wash any close to that? Let’s see.
My Experience
First I used Ubtan Body wash. I noticed the pleasant fragrance of sandalwood. Next I noticed that the ubtan body wash had scrubbing particles too for the exfoliation, but I feel that the actual exfoliation can be done only with the loofah. Rubbing a few particles on the skin cannot get you rid of the dead skin. So, the “exfoliating” character of the Ubtan variant does not make it any better.
After using it for a few days, I started noticing change in my skin texture. My skin had become very smooth and soft. The last time my skin was this smooth was in the USA. I was wondering what has happened to my skin, and it clicked to me that it is the new Mamaearth body wash that I have started using. My skin was at least 80-90% as smooth as I had with that USA body wash.
Oh… Thank God… I found something that made my skin that smooth and soft. I was super happy.
After finishing ubtan one, I bought Honey Malai and Vitamin C too, just to try and review it for you. Out of these two variants, Honey Malai had same effect, but Vitamin C did not. Vitamin C variant is like any other usual body wash, cleans well, but does not do much for the skin texture.
Also, Vitamin C body wash is slippery and it takes more water to make that slippery feeling go. All three produce satisfactory amount of foam.
Pros
- Made skin significantly smooth and soft (Ubtan and Honey Malai)
- Affordable
- Pleasant fragrances
Cons
- Honestly, there is no con
Does it fulfil its Claims
Let’s see claim wise:
- Paraben and SLS free: Yes, the label says so.
- Dermatologically tested: It has to be
- Suits all skin types: I guess yes. There is nothing that makes it unfit for oily or dry skin.
- Honey helps nourish skin: Honey does that. The skin feels nourished. But it feels the same with all three variants.
- Malai gives healthy glow: Glow…? not sure
- Creamy, non-drying texture: YES, Definitely
- Deeply cleanses skin: Cleansing is more or less same as any other body wash.
- Natural ingredients: Yes, the label says so.
- Brightens skin: No
- Gently Exfoliates: No
Final Verdict
This is the Body Wash I have been looking for. BEST so far.
Rating*: 5/5
Will I buy it again: Yes, Definitely, Always.
Do I Recommend it: Yes. Yes. Yes
